Bible Study Verse by Verse teaching Zechariah

Zechariah

The introduction below is from Chuck Smith's Old Testament Study Guide, available from all good Christian bookshops (contact DCF for details):

Zechariah has the clearest insight concerning the coming of Jesus Christ than any of the other Minor Prophets combined. He prophesies both of both the first and second coming of Jesus Christ.

This period had been a time of intense dealings of the Lord with His people. They were discouraged and demoralized. The task of the rebuilding of the temple seemed more than what they could really do in their own energies.

The prophet Haggai had explained that their hard times were a result of placing God second. They had put their own interests before God.
Now Zechariah picks up this same theme, and as the people renew their efforts to rebuild the house of God, Haggai and Zechariah both encourage the people to keep up the good work and finish building the temple. Whereas Haggai was work-oriented, Zechariah had his eyes on heaven and the future.
