Song of Solomon
The introduction below is from
Chuck Smith's Old Testament Study Guide,
available from all good Christian bookshops (contact
DCF
for details):
There are many
possible interpretations of the Song of Solomon. There are
some who see it purely as sensuous love song between Solomon
and one of his wives, or as a biblical marriage manual.
Others see it as a song depicting the relationship between
God and the nation of Israel, as in the prophecy of Hosea.
Still others see it as the story of the relationship between
Christ and His Church.
We look at
it as a spiritual allegory that represents the loving
relationship between Christ and His church – Solomon
becoming a type of Christ, and the Shulamite woman becoming
a type of the church in their expression of their love for
each other.
Jesus
desires to have a loving relationship with you. As Paul was
praying for the Ephesian church, he prayed that they might
know the length, the breadth, the depth, and the height of
the love of Christ, which he said, “passes knowledge.” The
love of Christ for you is so great, so intense, so deep, and
so rich you’ll never know the full depth of His love.
