Proverbs
The introduction below is from
Chuck Smith's Old Testament Study Guide,
available from all good Christian bookshops (contact

for details):
When Solomon
ascended to the throne, God said to him, “Ask of Me whatever
you would like.” Solomon said, “Lord, grant to me wisdom,
that I might rule over these, Your people.” The Lord was
pleased with Solomon’s request, and He said, “Because you
did not ask for money or fame, but for wisdom, I will not
only give you wisdom; but I will also give you riches and
fame.” Thus, Solomon became a very wise man.
Solomon was
a very prolific writer. He wrote 1,005 songs. He wrote 3000
proverbs – short little sayings that incorporate a lot of
wisdom. He wrote books on biology, zoology, and many
different fields. People came from all over the world to sit
and to hear is wisdom, as he expounded on plants, animals,
and things of this nature.
