Nehemiah
The introduction below is from

The books of
Ezra and Nehemiah are one book in the Hebrew Bible and
should be seen as a unit. The first chapter of Nehemiah
actually takes place about nine years after the close of the
book of Ezra in 457 BC. The book of Nehemiah picks up 90
years after Cyrus gave the commandment to return to Israel
and rebuild the temple in 536BC. It’s been 160 years since
the beginning of the Babylonian captivity. While the
children of Israel were in captivity, the Babylonian empire
was conquered by the Persians, who allowed the Israelites to
return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple.
Fourteen
years after Ezra had returned, Nehemiah heard a discouraging
report from Jerusalem. The building project was getting
bogged down, morale was low, and the people were being
victimized by their surrounding neighbours. Nehemiah
was a patriot interested in the restoration of the people to
Israel and what was happening there in Jerusalem – even
though he had never been there. And yet, within his heart he
identifies with Jerusalem and with the temple.
