Jeremiah
The introduction below is from
Chuck Smith's Old Testament Study Guide,
available from all good Christian bookshops (contact
DCF
for details):
About sixty
years after Isaiah died, God called Jeremiah to what must
have been one of the most difficult calls of any man. He was
called by God to prophesy to a nation that was dying. The
people did not respond to the message resulting in 40 years
of what you might say was fruitless ministry. They continued
in their evil paths until they were destroyed.
AS we se
Jeremiah, “the weeping prophet,” mourning the judgement of
the nation, we see the heart of God for His rebellious
people. God continued His witness to them until they were
carried away captive to Babylon.
But
Jeremiah’s ministry wasn’t to be successful as far as
bringing these people back to a spiritual relationship with
God. There was no recovery at this point and he had to sadly
watch these people as they disregarded his warnings and as
they went on into captivity.
