2nd Samuel
The introduction below is from
Chuck Smith's Old Testament Study Guide,
available from all good Christian bookshops (contact
DCF
for details):
First Samuel
dealt with the reign of King Saul over Israel and ends with
the death of Saul at the hands of the Philistines. Saul, the
tragic story of a man who had many natural abilities and
many God-given opportunities; yet, his was a wasted life,
never achieving his full potential because he filed to
submit totally to God.
Second
Samuel begins with the reign of David as he ascended to the
throne of Israel. Where Saul was disobedient to the Lord,
David had a heart for God. Even when he failed miserably, he
repented and sought the Lord’s favour. The first ten
chapters speak of David’s victories, as God established the
nation of Israel under David’s leadership. The rest of the
book records the decline in his kingdom as a result of his
failures.
