1st Kings
The introduction below is from
Chuck Smith's Old Testament Study Guide,
available from all good Christian bookshops (contact
DCF
for details):
First Kings is
the continuation of the history of the kings of Judah and
Israel. First and Second Samuel apply to the time from
Samuel through the reign of David. As we get into the books
of the Kings, we continue the history of the kings of Israel
and Judah as David passes from the scene.
First and
Second Kings covers a period of approximately 400 years, and
seems to be a compilation from several other documents
including: The Book of the Acts of Solomon, The Book of the
Chronicles of the Kings of Judah. These last two books
were the official records of the kingdoms when Israel was
divided into the northern and the southern kingdoms.
